Magnet Injury Lawyers

When a magnet hurts your child, you need a lawyer who has done this before.

Sim Osborn has represented families from 16 states whose children were killed or injured by magnetic toys, recovering more than $30 million for them. If your child swallowed magnets, we want to hear from you. The call is free and confidential.

We Stand With Families of Children Hurt by Magnets

High-powered magnets are small, shiny, and easy for a child to swallow. When a child swallows two or more, they can pull toward each other through the walls of the stomach and intestines. The damage happens inside, out of sight, often before anyone knows something is wrong.

Osborn Machler & Neff has stood beside families through exactly this. Sim Osborn has represented families from 16 states in magnet injury and death cases and has recovered more than $30 million for them. He knows the medicine, the products and the companies that make and sell them. He also knows what these families go through, from the first emergency room visit to the long recovery that follows.

“These parents did nothing wrong. They brought home a product that a company knew, or should have known, could put their child in the hospital. Our job is to make that company answer for it.”

– Simeon Osborn, Osborn Machler & Neff

How Magnets Injure Children

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission warns that when high-powered magnets are swallowed, they “can attract each other, or other metal objects, and become lodged in the digestive system. This can result in perforations, twisting, and/or blockage of the intestines, blood poisoning and death.”

The children we represent have suffered:

  • Holes torn through the stomach or intestines
  • Twisted or blocked bowels
  • Emergency surgery to remove magnets and damaged sections of bowel

  • Holes torn through the stomach or intestines
  • Twisted or blocked bowels
  • Emergency surgery to remove magnets and damaged sections of bowel

Early symptoms can look like a stomach bug: belly pain, vomiting, fever or a child who will not eat. If you think your child swallowed a magnet, go to an emergency room right away, even if your child seems fine.

The Products Behind These Injuries

Magnets turn up in more products than most parents realize. Our cases and recent federal recalls involve:

  • Magnetic ball and cube sets, often sold as desk toys or fidgets
  • Magnetic building sets and tiles where magnets work loose

  • Fidget spinners and stress toys built with magnets
  • Magnetic stick figures, games and chess sets

In 2026 alone, the CPSC has announced recalls of magnetic ball sets, fidget toys, stick figure sets, chess games and building cubes, many of them sold on Amazon. If the product is still in your home, keep it. Do not throw it away or send it back to the seller. It may be the most important evidence in your child’s case.

Who Can Be Held Responsible

A magnet injury case can involve more than one company. Depending on the facts, responsibility can fall on:

The manufacturer that designed and built the product

The retailer or online marketplace that sold it

The importer or distributor that brought it into the United States

Any company that knew about the danger and failed to warn families or recall the product

Many magnet products come from overseas makers that sell through online storefronts and then disappear. Finding every company that shares responsibility, and a real source of recovery, takes investigation. We do that work so you can focus on your child.

What Your Family Can Recover

A claim can help your family pay for what this injury has cost and will cost in the years ahead, including:

Medical bills, past and future

Surgeries, hospital stays and follow-up care

Wages parents lost while caring for their child

Your child’s pain, suffering and emotional harm

The lasting effects of the injury on your child’s health

In the worst cases, the loss of a child and the grief that follows

Magnet Injury FAQs

It depends on the product, how your child was hurt and what the companies involved knew. If your child needed medical care after swallowing a magnet, talk with us. The review is free, and we will give you an honest answer.

Toy makers have a duty to keep small, powerful magnets locked inside their products. When a magnet comes loose, the manufacturer, and sometimes the companies that imported or sold the toy, may be responsible.

Often, yes. Many dangerous magnet products come from overseas sellers on large online marketplaces. We investigate the full chain of companies behind a product to find who can be held accountable.

Not necessarily. A warning label does not excuse a company from selling a product that is unreasonably dangerous, especially when it is marketed in ways that appeal to children and teens.

Deadlines vary by state and by type of claim. In Washington, the clock on a child’s own claim generally does not start until the child turns 18, but parents’ claims for medical bills and other losses can run on a shorter timeline. Evidence also disappears quickly. Call us as soon as you can.
