Sim’s case record speaks for itself. He secured an $11 million settlement against the King County Sheriff’s Office for excessive force, a $1.35 million dollar verdict in the case of Armantrout v. Carlson, a case involving failure to provide proper surgical follow up care, a verdict exceeding $1.4 million in Lutz, et al. v. Snohomish School District arising from a stabbing on school grounds, and successfully resolved 25 cases involving children injured at trampoline parks. He has also represented families in 16 states whose children were killed or injured by magnetic toys recovering over 30 million dollars — work that helped drive nationwide product safety changes. His advocacy on behalf of two students who drowned in school pools helped reshape the way schools approach aquatic supervision and swim instruction.
Sim’s peers have recognized his talent and integrity throughout his career. He holds an AV rating from Martindale-Hubbell — the highest designation for professional ethics and legal ability — and has been recognized as one of America’s Top 100 High Stakes Litigators, a Top 100 Attorney in Washington, and a Top American Lawyer by multiple national organizations. Since 2003, he has been a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA), an invitation-only organization for elite trial lawyers. ABOTA named him Trial Lawyer of the Year in 2011, and he later served as Washington Chapter President in 2017 and received the organization’s President’s Award for his dedication to preserving the civil jury system.
Sim is admitted to practice in Washington State and in multiple federal district courts, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, and the United States Supreme Court.
A proud product of the Pacific Northwest, Sim earned his B.A. from Whitman College and his J.D. from Seattle University School of Law. He remains deeply invested in his community through board service with the Kirkland Boys & Girls Club, the Make-A-Wish Foundation, and Providence Hospital Foundation, and as the founder and President of the Kirkland Merchants select baseball club.
